A RESOLUTION REQUESTING GLOBE AND SMART TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMPANIES TO PROVIDE FREE WIFI ACCESS TO

A RESOLUTION REQUESTING GLOBE AND SMART TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMPANIES TO PROVIDE FREE WIFI ACCESS TO DESIGNATED AREAS IN EACH OF THE THIRTY SEVEN BARANGAYS OF COTABATO CITY PREFERABLY IN BARANGAY HALLS, BARANGAY PARKS,  MULTI PURPOSE CENTERS OR OTHER FEASIBLE PUBLIC AREAS TO BE IDENTIFIED BY THE BARANGAY COUNCILS CONCERNED.

WHEREAS, Cotabato City is a developing Local Government Unit in Central Mindanao with a fast growing local economy brought about by commercial establishments being put up all over the City;

WHEREAS, the City is a commercial center catering not only to the needs of its residents but those coming from neighboring places mostly under the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao;

WHEREAS, connectivity in terms of information and communications is an important part of the growth of any local government unit as they are vital in both promotion and security;

WHEREAS, Cotabato City residents have been patronizing Globe and Smart telecommunications for many years;

WHEREAS, the City Government of Cotabato is not collecting any local franchise tax from these telecommunication companies;

WHEREAS, the 15th Sangguniang Panlungsod of Cotabato City has been informed of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects of these companies like free public wifi access in airports all over the country;

WHEREFORE, on motion of Honorable Mohammad Ali C. Matabalao and unanimously seconded, it was –

RESOLVED as it is hereby resolved to request Globe and Smart Telecommunications Companies to give free public wifi access to each of the thirty seven (37) barangays of Cotabato City preferably in Barangay Halls, parks, multi-purpose centers or other feasible public areas to be identified by Barangay Councils concerned.
